As a parent or caregiver, you know how important it is to keep your kids hydrated, especially during hot summer months or after playing sports. It is also incredibly important for their digestive health and making sure they are not constipated which can lead to a host of other serious problems.

However, getting kids to drink enough water can be quite a challenge. Fortunately, there are some cute and creative ways to encourage your children to drink more water.

  1. Use Fun Straws: Drinking from a regular cup can be boring, but adding a fun straw can make water more exciting. You can find reusable straws in a variety of colors and shapes that your child will love.

  2. Create Flavored Water: If your child isn't a fan of plain water, consider adding some fruit or cucumber slices to their water bottle or cup. This will give the water a hint of flavour without adding sugar or artificial flavours and colours.

  3. Make Ice Pops: Freeze water and add some fruit or fruit juice, like watermelon, to create delicious ice pops that your kids will love. These are always a hit as they are fun, healthy and refreshing.

  4. Use a Fun Water Bottle: Let your child pick out a fun water bottle that they'll be excited to use. Look for bottles with fun designs, colours, or characters that your child loves. Make it special.

  5. Make it a Game: Turn drinking water into a game by challenging your child to drink a certain amount of water in a set amount of time. You can use a timer or make it a race to see who can finish their water first.

  6. Set a Good Example: Kids are more likely to do what they see their parents or caregivers doing. Make sure you're drinking enough water and show your child that it's important to stay hydrated.

  7. Use a Reward System: Consider using a reward system to encourage your child to drink more water. You can offer a small prize for every cup or bottle of water they drink.

  8. Create a Water Drinking Chart: Make a chart with stickers or markers to track how much water your child drinks each day. This can help them visualise their progress and encourage them to drink more water because it's fun.

  9. Add a Splash of Color: Make water more fun by adding a splash of color. You can use natural colours from squeezed pomegranates or add some other fresh fruit like blueberries to create a colourful and refreshing drink.

  10. Make it a Habit: Encourage your child to drink water regularly by making it a habit. Encourage them to drink water when they wake up, when they get home, before they go to sleep, even just a little sip will be great.  Be sure to make sure they have easy access to clear (steer clear of unfiltered tap water) water throughout the day.

Getting kids to drink more water doesn't have to be a chore and can be fun. With a little creativity and some fun ideas, you can encourage your child to stay hydrated and healthy.
